Kernel Smut in Rice

Kernel Smut in Rice and its control

This disease occurs only in grains. During this disease, only few rice grains are affected in the whole panicle. And most of the times, only a part of the grain is transformed into black powder. But sometimes, the entire grain is also affected by the disease and it turns the grain into black powder, which gets scatters on the other grains and leaves, and this is the simplest way to identify or notice the disease in the rice field.

Control:

Heavy doses of Nitrogenous Fertilizers should be avoided. To prevent this disease give the first spray by adding 200 ml of tilt or folicur 25 EC in 200 liters of water per acre when the panicle growth is just 10% and give the second spray after 10 days of interval.
